This website is now an archive

I am very grateful for all the discussions and feedback I have received on my accessibility articles over the years but it is now time for this website to be archived. It has not been updated for several years but when I tried to remove the website a couple of weeks ago I got a lot of emails from people who were looking for content so I guess it still serves a purpose. Therefor I will keep the website online, but comments will be disabled. Thank you for trying to make the web abetter place for everyone!

Fangs extension moving to Mozilla hosting

I discovered that my first post about the Fangs Screen reader emulator add-on was posted on November 22 in 2004. That is more than five years ago. At that time Mozilla hosting for add-ons was pretty rough and I couldn’t work out how to release updates. Alas, I hosted the add-on and updates on my own.

Yesterday I discovered that Mozilla add-on hosting has improved a lot so in the future you will find Fangs there. It should make updating a lot simpler. Version 1.06 adds compatibility with Firefox 3.6.

This is a short summary of some methods to add WAI-ARIA landmark roles to existing web pages, e.g. an existing template package for a content management system.

Currently many developers seem to be reluctant to add the role attribute in their markup since it will make pages invalid when using the W3C markup validation service. This is understandable given the attitude developers of content management systems have had to put up with from some people in the industry.

If you want to now more about WAI-ARIA, please have a look at the WAI-ARIA best practices document. Continue reading “Patterns for WAI-ARIA landmark roles in existing HTML”
